1. GREETING Greet the Consultant when he walks into your house. Help him unload his car and show him to his room. A smile and a firm handshake are always welcome. Give him a few minutes to relax and catch his breath.
2. TOURS Give the Consultant a tour of the house and your campus. In a sense, this will be his home for a few days, so help him feel comfortable in his new surroundings. Make sure he knows when and where members are eating lunch and dinner.
3. LODGING Make sure the Consultant has a bed, clean sheets, and towels. Also, make sure he has access to a telephone, internet connection, washing machines, and knows how to get to the nearest bank or ATM, and post office.
4. FORMS Be prepared for the Consultant's visit. Have the officer report forms and schedule of appointments, as well as any other requested materials ready for the Consultant when he arrives. This will be a big help in making his visit successful
5. MEETINGS Schedule meetings for the entire chapter with the Consultant on the first and last days of his visit, the new members, individual members, all officers, all committees, any alumni in the area and all advisors, including the Greek advisor. These meetings are necessary for the Consultant to fully understand the brotherhood so he can give suggestions and ideas that will work.
6. BE ON TIME Make sure committee chairmen and officers show up on time for scheduled appointments. The Consultant's time is valuable. So is the time of your officers.
7. BE OPEN AND CANDID Be as open with the Consultant as he is with the brothers of the chapter. The Consultant is there to help with any problems. It is much easier for him to give suggestions and solutions for your problems if you are open, candid, and honest with him.
8. PAPERWORK Allot some time for the Consultant to complete his paperwork from his previous visit. Consultants do not like to fall behind and he would appreciate some time early in the visit to finish up.
9. RESPECT Treat the Consultant as you would want to be treated; with respect and consideration. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience for the brotherhood.
10. LISTEN & FOLLOW UP The Consultant will give officer and members a number of ideas to improve the chapter. Listen to these suggestions and try to implement them into your chapter. Above all, do not make excuses such as, "We tried that once", or, "That won't work here." The Consultant has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Use his suggestions to improve your chapter.
