ExpansionWhat is expansion?Expansion is the process by which a chapter is established or re-established on a college campus. At Theta Chi, expansion is managed by the International Headquarters staff with support from the Leadership and Education Consultants.
How do I start a new chapter? If you are an undergraduate at a campus where Theta Chi is not currently active, you can fill out a
Start an Interest Group Form.
If you are an alumnus looking to reopen your chapter or get involved with another expansion, contact Director of Expansion and Recruitment JD Ford at
jdford@thetachi.org.
How does it work? The expansion process is composed of three phases: interest group, colony and chapter:
- Interest group: 1-29 members; a group of undergraduates who have indicated a serious interest in becoming a chapter
- Colony: 30-49 members; a group of undergraduates who have formally pledged Theta Chi but who have not yet been granted a charter
- Chapter: 50 or more members; a colony that has successfully submitted a petition for installation to the Grand Chapter and which has been granted a charter
Expansion criteriaThe International Headquarters staff evaluates the viability of potential expansion sites on a case-by-case basis. Example criteria include:
- Strength of Greek community
- Undergraduate academic performance
- Potential for consistent, long-term alumni support
- Likeliness of college/university support
