Colony/Interest Group Expectations

Timeline and Expectations

EXPECTATIONS OF THETA CHI COLONY/INTEREST GROUP MEMBERS

    1. Members will pay a $60 fee within the first week of joining the Interest Group to receive their educational materials (The Manual of Theta Chi Fraternity and the New Member Educational Workbook).  At the time of Colonization, all members will receive the New Member Button.

    2. Members will obtain a grade point average equal to or higher than the all men's grade point average on campus.

    3. Members will complete at least 10 hours of community service a semester.

    4. Members will be actively involved in at least one other campus organization.

    5. The group will send in monthly report forms documenting their activities and progress by facsimile, mail, or e-mail to expansion@thetachi.org. The group will also send in monthly roster, officer, and Colony Advisory Board (CAB) updates that will include phone numbers, addresses, and e-mail addresses.

    6. The group will establish and maintain an e-mail list serve for all undergraduate and Colony Advisory Board members.

    7. At least 5 members of the group will attend the Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) or School of Fraternity Practices/Convention during the summer.

    8. At least 50% of the group will attend a Mid-Year Leadership Challenge (MYLC) being held at a location near the interest group/colony in November or February of each year (month is depending on location of the school).

    9. At least one member of the group will attend the Deranian Presidents Conference held annually In January in Indianapolis, Indiana.

    10. To be colonized, the group must have at least 25 members, written bylaws, be registered as a student organization (per campus/IFC guidelines), and be current financially one month in advance of the Colonization Ceremony.

    11. To be installed as a chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, a colony must have at least 45 members, or be larger than the average chapter size on campus. The colony must also pay the per man initiation fee, the Installation fee, and the National General Liability Insurance premium. The colony must also complete and submit the final draft of their Installation Petition three months prior to the planned Installation date.
