The basic building block of expansion is a strong relationship between Theta Chi Fraternity and the college/university where a chapter is being established. Once the process has started, members of the Theta Chi expansion team will work with the Greek Advisor and university officials to determine the optimum time for expansion to begin. During this initial contact, plans will be set to make the expansion process as swift and efficient as possible for both the Fraternity and the campus.
Initially, at least two staff members will be on campus to facilitate membership recruitment and colony development. Traditionally, the first three weeks on campus will focus on recruiting new members, working with interested students, and facilitating the development of the Colony Advisory Board. The next three weeks will center on the education, training, and development of the Interest Group. This time will be used to teach members how to successfully operate the group, what is expected of members of Theta Chi Fraternity, and to develop a plan of action for completing the timeline that groups follow leading up to their installation as a chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity.
The process of moving from an Interest Group to a chapter is outlined as a 16-18 month effort during which members learn, experience, and develop the means by which they will operate their chapter in the future. The expectations of colony/interest group members, the expansion timeline, and the resources available through the web page, the campus, and the International headquarters will greatly assist a group in their procession towards installation in Theta Chi Fraternity.
