How Theta Chi Selects A Campus

Our Criteria For Expansion

Enrollment and Retention

  • At least 3000 full time undergraduate students, or an average fraternity size of 45 men.
  • Enrollment should be stable or increasing over the past three years. Exceptions will be made if the student population decreased due to enrollment caps.
  • At least 33% of all entering first year students must graduate within 5 years.
  • At least 50% of all entering first year students must return for a second year.
  • The institution must be accredited by an accrediting association.

Greek System Information

  • Average men's chapter size of at least 45 men.
  • An Interfraternity Council (or similar Greek Council) must be in place.
  • Membership recruitment eligibility cannot be restricted by academic classification.
  • The All-Fraternity GPA must be above, at, or near the All-Men's GPA.
  • The Administration should be supportive of Greek letter organizations. We will not expand to a campus without prior administrative approval.
  • The Greek system must have policies consistent with Theta Chi policies regarding sexual harassment/abuse, risk management, and hazing.

In addition to these criteria, the academic reputation of the school, name recognition, the quality of the Greek system, and location are factors that are considered.
