Alumni Awards

For the service to the Fraternity and for individual accomplishments, Theta Chi awards our alumni with these honors:

THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The Distinguished Service Award of Theta Chi Fraternity is the highest honor that the Fraternity can bestow. It was authorized and established by the Grand Chapter on December 17, 1938. By means of this award the Fraternity is able to show its official appreciation and to publicly recognize and properly honor those alumni members of the Fraternity who by reason of outstanding national service, personal effort and unselfish interest have made distinguished contributions to the lasting good and general welfare of Theta Chi Fraternity. This award can be presented only by the Grand Chapter.

Candidates for the award are selected by a special committee appointed by the national president. Nominations for the award may be made by this committee, through the Executive Office, by any member of the Fraternity, or by any group in the Fraternity. Special nomination forms can be secured from the Executive Office.

The number of awards is limited to not more than one a year, but special arrangements were made at the time the award was authorized to permit the recognition of service performed prior to the establishment of the award. At no time can the total number of awards made exceed the number of years in the age of the fraternity. The award can be presented posthumously, in which case the certificate only is sent to the nearest of kin. The first Distinguished Service Award was presented to Frederick Norton Freeman, the second to Arthur Chase.

EARL "DUSTY" RHODES THETA CHI FOR LIFE AWARD

This award was authorized and established by the Grand Chapter in 1976 and is the second highest award of Theta Chi Fraternity. It is named in honor of Past National President Earl D. "Dusty" Rhodes, who is known as "Mr. Theta Chi." Rhodes, who was an alumnus of the Delta/Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute chapter, was the first recipient of this award in 1976. The award recognizes those who devote a lifetime of outstanding service to Theta Chi Fraternity. Recipients are selected by a national advisory committee, which is composed of all living former National Presidents.

ALUMNI AWARD

The Alumni Award of Theta Chi Fraternity was authorized and established by the Grand Chapter on January 20, 1946.

Its purpose is to permit the Grand Chapter, undergraduate chapters, alumni chapter, alumni corporations and other organized groups in the Fraternity to officially show their appreciation of and to publicly recognize and properly honor those alumni members of the Fraternity who by reason of exceptional service, personal effort and unselfish interest have made meritorious contributions to the local, regional or national general welfare of Theta Chi Fraternity.
