LEAD is the Leadership, Education, and Academic Development program of Theta Chi Fraternity. It is a comprehensive member development program for undergraduate members of Theta Chi Fraternity, encompassing the topics of leadership, education, academic development, and community outreach. The LEAD Program was created to preserve the Fraternity and its members as well as keep members active in the Fraternity throughout their undergraduate career. The LEAD Program offers undergraduates additional opportunities to develop as students while attending college and to acquire the skills needed to succeed as citizens throughout their lives.
LEAD is a self-paced program for individual undergraduate members of Theta Chi Fraternity. Although the program does focus on the individual member, with proper implementation the entire chapter will benefit and see improvements in many areas of chapter operations. After implementing the program, members and chapters will see and experience many of the following:
- Leadership experiences that will promote individual growth and interaction with many campus leaders.
- Opportunities to develop life skills that will benefit members in everyday life and after college.
- Academic support from a chapter Academic Advisor and other chapter members.
- Opportunities to become involved in assisting the community through community service projects.
- Reflection with brothers on individual research of the Ritual, history, and the heritage of Theta Chi Fraternity.
There are currently 11 LEAD Chapters -- Alpha Tau/Ohio University, Gamma Lambda/University of Denver, Delta Zeta/University of Nebraska-Omaha, Zeta Beta/Adrian College, Zeta Sigma/University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Eta Mu/University of Findlay, Eta Tau/California State University-Stanislaus, Iota Alpha/University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Iota Beta/Southwest Missouri State University, Iota Gamma/Grand Valley State University, and Iota Delta/Southeastern Louisiana University.
History of the LEAD program
The LEAD Program evolved from the LEAD Resolution that was passed in the legislative session at the 142nd Anniversary Convention in San Antonio, Texas in 1998 by 61% of the delegates voting at the National Convention. The LEAD Resolution included a provision that mandated Alcohol Free Housing (AFH) be implemented in all undergraduate chapters by July 2003. The Resolution also called for the creation of a membership development program to assist in the personal development of Theta Chi's undergraduate members. To meet this request, the LEAD Program was first conceived by the Alcohol-Free Housing Task Force in March 1998.
The LEAD Program was formally introduced to the members of Theta Chi Fraternity at the 144th Anniversary Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2000. |
