Theta Chi Fraternity is proud to announce that Dr. Tony Lake, Epsilon Upsilon/Central Michigan 1995, has been chosen as the new National President of Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society.

"There are big things ahead, and I am looking forward to working with some great people to make them happen!" says Lake of his new appointment.

Founded Nov. 9, 1989 at the University of Southern California, Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society (GSA) exists to recognize and advance academic excellence as a core value of fraternities and sororities and is the premier organization committed to the academic success of its members and alignment with the academic mission of its host institutions. The organization initiates more than 2000 students annually and has 215 chapters across the country and in Canada. Students are eligible for membership based on grade point average and membership in a Greek fraternity or sorority. The Society strives to uphold the high ideals of scholastic achievement, and therefore, only initiates students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) at the start of their junior year, or a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in any semester during their junior or senior year.

Gamma Sigma Alpha’s Board of Directors is comprised of some of the most experienced professionals in higher education. They serve as an advisory board, guiding the organization’s strategic initiatives and act as advocates for Gamma Sigma Alpha. Board members are elected for three year terms of service.

Dr. Tony Lake received a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Graphic Design and Photography in 1995 from Central Michigan University, a Master of Science in College Student Personnel Administration in 1997 from the University of Central Missouri, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration in 2005 from Bowling Green State University.

Dr. Lake is currently the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs at the University of Miami and has served in that role for over five years. He works with student disciplinary issues and has assisted with Greek Life on campus. He has also worked as leadership education curriculum development consultant for several different organizations. Since 2009, he has been involved with Leadership Miami, a program of the Greater Miami Area Chamber of Commerce, and is a co-founder of a young professional's society for the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. Previous to his work at Miami, Dr. Lake was Assistant Director of Student Life at Michigan State University and Instructor of Organizational Development at Kalamazoo College.

Dr. Lake’s involvement also extends back to Theta Chi. Most recently, Dr. Lake volunteered to serve on the Colony Advisory Board that formed over two years ago when a group of students at Florida International University began the work of bringing Theta Chi to their campus. Dr. Lake’s Assisting Hand on their CAB helped the men of Iota Omicron Chapter receive their charter in April 2012, and he continues to serve on their Chapter Advisory Board, and mentors the members of the chapter.

Theta Chi’s Executive Director Mike Mayer congratulated Dr. Lake on his selection as President of Gamma Sigma Alpha and noted, "We are very proud that a member of Theta Chi leads an organization whose mission seeks to advance such an important core value of the Fraternity and Sorority community."
