William M. Russo (Epsilon Xi/Clarion 2002) has been hired as Theta Chi Fraternity’s new Director of Volunteer Development, effective July 2, 2012.

As Director of Volunteer Development, Russo will be responsible for coordinating the Fraternity’s Counselor Program, as well as recruiting, training, and facilitating the placement of volunteers in positions that will support and advance the Fraternity’s chapters and members. Russo will also work with Counselors and staff to provide the best possible services and resources to Theta Chi’s volunteers.

Russo is currently a Community Representative for the American Cancer Society (ACS), where he was responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers on Indianapolis’ West Side. He also helped with fundraising efforts and represented the ACS on various cancer committees at local hospitals. In 2011, he was recognized by the ACS with the Star Award as one of the top recruiters in the Great Lakes Division, which includes all of Indiana and Michigan.

From 2002-2009, Russo was Theta Chi’s Director of Leadership Development. In that role, he was responsible for planning the Fraternity’s leadership education events, including the Deranian Presidents Conference, Mid-Year Leadership Conferences, Chapter Leadership Conferences, and National Conventions.

“Bill is the ideal match for this position at this time,” Executive Director Mike Mayer said. “His past experience on staff, coupled with his experience working with volunteers at the American Cancer Society, make him a great fit for us. We’re excited to have him back.”

Russo’s first day will be July 2, 2012, just in time for the 156th Anniversary Convention and 35th School of Fraternity Practices in Palm Springs, CA.
