Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, the brothers of Delta Upsilon Chapter at Arizona State University sponsored a blood drive for the American Red Cross, at Memorial Union. As sponsors of the blood drive, the brothers were responsible for passing out flyers and encouraging people to participate in the blood drive.

The brothers had a goal to achieve 30 donations for the blood drive and exceeded that goal by receiving 50 donations – the majority of the donations coming from the brothers. For each donation the American Red Cross receives, a minimum of three lives will be saved.

“We had 50 donations, so we saved 150 lives that day,” said Evan Sturtevant who helped organize the event. “It felt extremely rewarding,” he said.

The American Red Cross was so impressed by the turnout at the blood drive that they are helping the brothers to plan another event in February 2014.

“We will be setting a higher goal for the blood drive,” said Sturtevant. “We are also adding more staff since we received so many donations last time,” he added. “I highly recommend other chapters work with the American Red Cross,” said Sturtevant. “They coordinated the event so everything went very smoothly and made it easy for our brothers to donate blood and pass out flyers,” he said.
