Dec. 2, 2013 — The annual City/County Christmas dinner is scheduled Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Carl D. Perkins Community Center.

Elected officials from city and county have come together for more than 20 years to provide a free Christmas dinner as a means of giving back to the community. This year will be no different.

The meal will include turkey, ham, dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and desserts. Drinks also will be provided.

County Treasurer Michelle Jessee said 450 pounds of turkey and 150 pounds of ham have been purchased to make sure there will be plenty for everyone.

In keeping with tradition, elected officials will serve the meal to community guests.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for the evening and the Lions Club will have a Kid's Print ID booth.

“It's our kickoff to Christmas in Rowan County,” said Tracy Williams, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. “It's great fellowship.”

Members of Morehead’s Public Works Department and Morehead Inspiration Center volunteers will be decorating the Center throughout the week.

Jessee, Williams, Tracy Hamilton, and Mary Ann Stevens each have played a part in organizing the dinner.

The detention center's Ivory Waddell will be cooking the turkey, ham and mashed potatoes. Firefighters and other first responders will assist with transporting food.

Music will be provided by Jim Tom Trent.

MSU's Chi Omega sorority will provide candy bags for children and Theta Chi fraternity will help with cleanup.

“It's open to the public and its fun,” Jessee said. “The elected officials will enjoy having no stress for a few hours.”
