Matthew Becker (Gamma Rho/Florida State 2007) has been awarded the prestigious National Security Education Program's David L. Boren Fellowship.

Boren Fellowships are funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Up to $30,000 is provided to U.S. graduate students to support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Brother Becker is a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science at the University of Mississippi; the Boren Fellowship will fund one year of dissertation research abroad in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has previously been awarded Title VIII Fellowships to study Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian languages from the State Department. He earned his M.S. in International Affairs (2009) from Florida State University.
