HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PCCA, a Houston-based, FDA-registered supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients and technical consulting to pharmacies, healthcare institutions and outsourcing facilities, is pleased to announce the recent promotion of two of its team members: Gus Bassani, PharmD, to Chief Scientific Officer, and Arjun (A.J.) Day, PharmD, to Vice President of Clinical Services.

“Both Gus and A.J. fill vital roles on PCCA’s Strategic Management team,” said Jim Smith, PCCA President. “Gus’ advice is consistently sought for any new product development idea or business development concept that involves pharmacy or scientific knowledge. A.J.’s ability to streamline and provide clarity on complex, scientific topics is second to none. Both of these team members provide solid leadership for our company and we look to their expertise in conveying the value PCCA Clinical Services bring to our customers.”

These promotions follow a related department name change at PCCA. Previously known as the Pharmacy Consulting department, PCCA’s team of more than 20 Clinical Compounding Pharmacists in the newly named Clinical Services department provides the most extensive clinical and technical compounding consulting expertise and support in the compounding pharmacy industry. PCCA Clinical Services provide PCCA members with access to: Clinical Compounding Pharmacists 24/7 to answer compounding pharmacies’ clinical questions, from complex formulas to challenging patient problems; 9,600+ formulations in PCCA’s proprietary formula database; and more than 120 PCCA FormulaPlus™ studies using rigorous, stability-indicating methods to evaluate the chemical potency of formulas, resulting in extended beyond-use dates (BUDs) backed by solid science.

Formerly PCCA’s Vice President of Consulting, Research and Development, and Formulations, Bassani brings extensive experience and a drive for innovation to his new role as Chief Scientific Officer. A team member since 2002, Bassani oversees everything at PCCA related to pharmacy scientific knowledge and is regularly engaged in legislative, regulatory and public affairs activities. Prior to joining PCCA, Bassani worked in multiple pharmacy practice and industry settings, and taught extemporaneous compounding principles to pharmacy students in Drake University's Pharmaceutics Laboratory course. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Bassani is a member of the 2015-2020 United States Pharmacopeia Council of Experts - Compounding Expert Committee, and has served on the Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences National Advisory Council.

Day has also been promoted from Director of Clinical Services to PCCA’s Vice President of Clinical Services. In his role, Day leads PCCA’s team of Clinical Compounding Pharmacists, and now serves on the PCCA Strategic Management team. Actively involved in PCCA’s public affairs work, he also regularly provides expert testimony on behalf of the compounding profession to the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee. Day currently serves on the board of directors for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and on the National Community Pharmacists Association Committee on Compounding, which provides expertise on regulatory and business development issues and opportunities in compounding. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston. Over the course of his career, he has provided CE and non-CE presentations to thousands of physicians, veterinarians and pharmacists around the world.
