The fourth seed Louisville Cardinals succeeded in fending off the 13 seed Manhattan Jaspers in round one of the Midwest Region Basketball championship in Orlando Thursday, March 20, 2014.

With less than four minutes remaining, and being down 58-55,  it looked as though the defending national champions would be out of the championship in the first round. But Russell Smith got things going  with a three-pointer, and then Theta Chi’s own Luke Hancock (Eta Chi/George Mason 2011) stole an inbound pass, got fouled, but made both free throws.

With 1:19 left in the game, Brother Hancock came through again with two three-pointers, allowing the Cardinals to take the lead. With 28 seconds remaining, Hancock sank another three-pointer from behind the arc propelling the Cardinals to a 71-64 win over Manhattan.
