On March 23, 2013, the brothers of Iota Pi Chapter at Louisiana State University (LSU) spent their Saturday helping Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area. Alzheimer’s Services gives information to Alzheimer’s patients’ families and runs Charlie’s Place. Charlie’s Place is designed to give Alzheimer’s patients a place to pass the time, as well as, give the patients activities that help stimulate the brain. Members of the chapter completed a variety projects around Charlie’s Place such as: raking leaves around the courtyard, spraying the building overhang, cleaning windows, and helping organize and consolidate a storage closet.

That was not the first time that Iota Pi chapter helped the organization. On January 26, 2013, the chapter hosted the “Rock to Remember” concert that benefited Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area. The event featured local band, Sweet Root, Theta Chi raised $1,500 at this event.

Although Iota Pi named Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area as their official philanthropy in 2011, last year they were also involved with Relay for Life and Special Olympics philanthropies.

Earlier this month Development Associate, Jeri McCullough, of Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, nominated Iota Pi Chapter for the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) “Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award.” This week it was announced that the chapter had won.

“I am very happy to be associated with this chapter and its philanthropic events,” says McCullough.

November 15, 2013, two representatives from the chapter will attend the AFP’s National Philanthropy Day Luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA. The representatives will receive the award and will also have the opportunity to speak about their philanthropic efforts. The Iota Pi representatives attending the luncheon will be determined at a later date.

“I am very proud of these young men in accomplishing the three fold life of Theta Chi fraternity (Serving God, Country and fellow man),” said Joseph Thomas, Interim Chapter advisor and Staff/Faculty Advisor for Iota Pi, and Manager of Building Services at LSU. “This award truly symbolizes the hard work and dedication to not only "reciting the creed but living it". God Bless the men of Iota Pi,” he added.
