Mizzou Engineer receives AIChE Community Distinguished Service Award

Mizzou Engineering faculty member Reginald Rogers Jr. has been awarded the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Minority Affairs Community’s Distinguished Service Award.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition from AIChE,” Rogers said. “I love what I do and I’m going to continue to be engaged in educating students, no matter where they come from. I want to be there to help them however I can.”

Rogers, director of graduate studies and an associate professor of chemical and biomedical engineering, has often been recognized for his teaching, research and service efforts.

In 2023, Rogers received the AIChE Award for Excellence in Chemical Engineering Teaching Practice, and in 2021 he was honored with The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) Dr. Tyrone L. Mitchell Mentor on the Map Award.

In addition to teaching classes, Rogers co-directed the NSF REU site, “Creative Approaches to Materials Design and Processing,” this summer. His research focuses on carbon nanomaterial-based energy storage materials, chemical and biological sensors, and water treatment using carbon nanomaterials.
