Theta Chi to launch community healthy, safety plan

The brothers of Southeastern’s chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity are launching a health and safety improvement plan called Sacred Purpose. With Sacred Purpose growing and continuing to protect the wellbeing of all brothers, the chapter plans to extend this crusade across campus and the Hammond area.

According to the National Theta Chi Sacred Purpose website and blog, it is more than just a campaign to support, assist and protect its members. The national fraternity’s highest expression of true friendship and manhood is caring for and helping others.

The name Sacred Purpose comes from the Creed of Theta Chi written by Frank Schrenk in the 1920s, chosen because it accomplishes all things sacred and purposeful.

Theta Chi member and Vice President of Health and Safety, Stephen Marco, gave insight regarding the impact Theta Chi plans to bring onto campus and within the Hammond community.

“I have begun speaking to some leaders ranging from Andrea Peevy at the health center and Dr. Edward Hebert at the Kinesiology department to understand the biggest health and safety challenges and issues on campus,” said Marco. “Theta Chi plans to aid existing events through the health center, REC center and other organizations on campus to have a positive impact on the students of Southeastern’s campus.”

Theta Chi has many things in store for students on campus and individuals residing in the Hammond area. With this ongoing campaign, the fraternity plans on continuing to complete their brotherly duties while informing everyone within the Hammond community and here on campus.

Marco also explained how the Sacred Purpose would make an impact at Southeastern.

“By raising awareness on these issues that all colleges deal with we will effectively give our students the ability to live their very best life and this will in turn cause a snowball effect as these students will inevitably begin to influence their peers to live in a healthier way,” said Marco. “There are many health and safety issues that simply fly under the radar, and the goal of this whole process is to yield a deeper caring for one another while unifying our efforts to create a larger footprint on campus.”

Theta Chi has another community outreach program they are co-sponsoring, Safety Saturday with Lowe’s Home Improvement. At the event, Theta Chi members will be handing out fire detectors and informing individuals on fire safety as a part of Fire Safety awareness week.
