Spring Break Tips
Spring break is here! No matter your plans, we encourage members to review these spring break safety tips.
Remember: in any emergency, do not hesitate to dial 9-1-1.
Stay hydrated
Heat, sun, and travel can dehydrate you fast. Keep water nearby throughout the day and drink it regularly.
Watch your stuff
Leave your valuables at home (if you can) and avoid leaving items unattended. Consider turning your phone’s location services on, bringing a battery bank, and using AirTags (or similar).
Be an Upstander
Warning signs can become big problems if everyone assumes “someone else will handle it.” Resolute Men should not be bystanders; they should be upstanders. A bystander notices something wrong but stays on the sidelines. An upstander stays alert, checks in, and steps in early.
Know your limits
Some may be tempted to sleep less and take more risks during vacation. Know and respect your boundaries. Pace yourself and listen to your body.
Use sunscreen generously
This doesn’t just apply to beaches! The FDA recommends applying and reapplying sunscreen at least every two hours (even more often if you’re swimming). Remember between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. the sun is typically the most intense. Cover your nose, ears, neck, hands, feet, and lips.
Stick together
When you travel, use a “buddy system,” especially at night and/or in unfamiliar areas. Decide ahead of time how you’ll handle splitting up, and that everyone knows where to meet if you lose communication.
Be informed
Check for weather alerts, local advisories, and any relevant travel updates, especially if you’re heading to a busy destination or traveling abroad. Plan ahead: study the area, learn how to get a safe ride, and determine where the nearest health providers are located. You can stay up to date on travel advisories at the U.S. Department of State’s website here.
You’re ALWAYS wearing Theta Chi letters
No matter what you’re wearing, you still represent Theta Chi—your Fraternity— everywhere you go. The way you treat others and the choices you make reflect the entire Fraternity’s name, ideals, and membership. Be respectful, extend the Helping Hand, and don’t let “vacation mode” be a reason to act out of character. Be a Resolute Man.
Relax and have fun
Be safe, make memories, and have a great time together.
Look out for your brothers, stay aware of your surroundings, and make choices you’ll be proud of when you’re back on campus.
