“The Golden Scallop,” is a mockumentary style comedy about three Cape Cod based cooks who face off in an annual fried seafood competition for The Golden Scallop Award. One of the cooks, Jake Martin, is portrayed by Theta Chi Josh Koopman, Alpha Chi/Syracuse 1999. Not only does Josh have a part in the movie, but he is also the co-producer, and has been involved with the film from the beginning.

“I was involved from the inception of the project, as I live with the writer, director, producer, and art director currently,” said Koopman. “We did all the casting ourselves, was truly a full team effort and had to draw on the full scope of our resources (people, locations, time) to make it happen,” he added.

The first of the screenings being on the festival’s opening day and the last on the festival’s closing night. The movie’s world premiere was at the Newport Film Festival in April.

Newport Beach is a top 25 festival so that was truly incredible for us,” said Koopman. “We next had two screenings (including the opening night feature slot) at AMFM Fest in Cathedral City, Palm Springs,” he said.

“We won the Special Jury Award there (AMFM Fest) and I accepted it right before Viggo Mortenson was on stage to accept the Dennis Hopper award,” said Koopman. “Our ultimate goal is to sell the film and get distribution,” he said.
