Theta Chi Colonizes at San Marcos

San Marcos, CA – On February 4, 2017, San Marcos, CA became one of Theta Chi Fraternity’s newest colonies. The colony was created through the hard work of 16 collegians and was spearheaded by Brady Phillips. “After visiting with the other fraternities at San Marcos, I realized they weren’t a great fit for me,” stated Phillips. “The same thing happened with some of my friends. One night we sat down and were conversing about fraternities when the idea came about to start our own. We talked through how this could add onto the student involvement experience on campus and how it would give us the opportunity to create a legacy that could last a lifetime.”

Deciding to start a new fraternity was just the first part of the equation. The decision to affiliate with Theta Chi came from the Fraternity’s ideals of patriotism and our historical support of the military. “Many of us come from military homes,” said Phillips. “Seeing Theta Chi’s historical impact on veterans and people overseas, we wanted to be a part of that and help in every way we can.”

The colonization ceremony was held at the Consuelo Masonic Lodge in Escondido, CA and was presided over by International Marshal Herb Morgan. Attendees included past International President Dave DeVol, past International Treasurer Ron Ramos, Chief Operating Officer Ray Vanlanot, Counselor Jim McMahon, and alumni from Gamma Theta/San Diego State, Zeta Rho/Kentucky, Theta Iota/UC-Santa Cruz, and Kappa Alpha/Spokane.

The banquet that followed was held at the Consuelo Masonic Lodge as well. It included the same attendees as the ceremony along with some of the colony member’s girlfriends. Both Herb Morgan and Ray Vanlanot gave their congratulations to the group and high hopes for them moving forward.
