Theta Chi is excited to announce the arrival of a new colony over the weekend of February 4, 2012. 18 new members formally pledged to a new colony at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in Marietta, GA.

National Chaplain Joseph Couch represented the Grand Chapter and served as the presiding officer at Saturdays colonization ceremony. He was joined by Colony Advisory Board Chairman Josh Wilson (Delta Kappa/ Ball State 2003), members of the Colony Advisory Board, Dan Wheeler (Theta Epsilon/Kennesaw State University 1998), Kyle Taylor (Alpha Nu/Georgia Tech 2010), Art Krasilovsky (Alpha Tau/Ohio University 1978) and alumni from the greater Atlanta area.

JD Ford, Director of Recruitment and Expansion, and Stepheno Zollos, Leadership and Education Consultant, represented the International Headquarters staff. Also in attendance were families and other students showing their support.

First recognized in the fall 2011 semester, the SPSU interest group was formed after a group of students wanted something more from their campus. They quickly organized and notified the International Headquarters of their desire to affiliate with Theta Chi. The group was invited to attend the Deranian Presidents Conference in January of 2012.

Southern Polytechnic State University was founded in 1948 as a two-year division of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). It first opened its doors in Chamblee, GA with 116 students, most being WWII veterans. In 1949 the school was reorganized as a college level school by the U.S. Department of Education.

Twelve years later the school moved to its current location in Marietta, GA. It became accredited as a four-year college in 1970, also separating ties with Georgia Tech between the years of 1979-1980. It became a full university in 1996.

SPSU is home to approximately 5,500 students, six NIC fraternities two NPC organizations, and a number of NPHC and multicultural organizations.
