Theta Chi Fraternity Recognizes Five New Resolute Men

Las Vegas, NV – On July 28, 2018, during the 162nd Anniversary Convention in Las Vegas, five brothers of Theta Chi Fraternity were recognized as Resolute Men. Similar to an Eagle Scout distinction, the Resolute Man provides a path for members to follow during their time in college to help extract the most from their collegiate experience. From holding a leadership position within an organization on campus to attending an athletics event, this experience is designed to help best prepare members for life after college.

Joel Brown (Gamma Phi/Nebraska Wesleyan 2018)
Joel majored in music performance and minored in history and served Gamma Phi Chapter as Vice President, Chaplain, and Service and Philanthropy Chairman. He was also recognized with the chapter’s Outstanding Senior Award. On campus, he was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society and Order of Omega, served as President of the Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir, and was also involved with the school’s opera, Student Affairs Senate, jazz choir, and the Lincoln Continentals Acapella Chorus. Even with his heavy involvement within Theta Chi and on campus, Joel still found time to volunteer for organizations such as Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Relay for Life, worked in maintenance for the school and as a social media intern for Ion Design Company, and graduated with a grade point average of 3.58 on a 4.0 scale.

Nicholas Coccodrilli (Epsilon Zeta/Tampa, FL 2018)
Nicholas Coccodrilli maintained a 3.07 grade point average while majoring in finance and minoring in criminal justice. He was a two-term President of Epsilon Zeta Chapter and attended multiple Theta Chi events including Initiative Academy, Theta Chi University, and Sasser Presidents Conference. On campus, he served the IFC as Vice President of Community Standards and then as President, and was the Senior Chairman for the University of Tampa Office of Student Conduct. While in school, he worked as an Assistant Sales/Marketing Manager for Vector Marketing then as a Market Research Analyst for Catalina Marketing. Nicholas currently works as a Financial Analyst/Broker Assistant for Marcus and Millichap Commercial Real Estate Investment Service.

Matias Grunbaum (Iota Nu/South Florida 2018)
Brother Grunbaum graduated with a 2.9 grade point average while double majoring in economics and mass communications with a concentration in advertising. He served Iota Nu Chapter as President, Public Relations Officer, and Philanthropy Chairman. On campus he was involved with the USF Entrepreneurship Club, Order of the Golden Brahman Leadership Society, served as President of the USF Advertising Club, was a founder and served as Executive Vice President of the USF Chapter of Order of Omega, and was the Vice President of Marketing and of Member Development for the Interfraternity Council. He also spent time volunteering with the Shriners Children’s Hospital, the USO, the Buddy Sports Program, and spent time as an intern with the USF Center for Student Involvement, Triad Retail Media, Zimmerman Advertising, and Keystone Intertrade, Inc.

Derek Hatzenbuhler (Phi/North Dakota State 2018)
Derek majored in strategic communication, minored in art, and completed his academic requirements with a grade point average of 4.0. He served Phi Chapter as President and Secretary and was recognized as the New Member MVP while pledging. Within Theta Chi, he attended Sasser Presidents Conference and Theta Chi University twice, received a Sherwood and Janet Roberts Blue Memorial Scholarship from The Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi, and was the recipient of the 2017 Reginald E.F. Colley Award, the highest honor the Fraternity can bestow upon a collegian. On campus he was a member of the Photography Club, Public Relations Student Society of America, the Bison Information Network, NDSU Dance Marathon, and served as a Welcome Week Leader and as the Art Director for the Advertising Club. Within the Fargo community, he volunteered with Special Olympics and WishFast (a local chapter of the Make-A-Wish foundation). As an experienced photographer, his work has been featured in the Flakoll Gallery, the Memorial Union Gallery, and in the Memorial Union at North Dakota State.

Brandon McCoy (Iota Beta/Missouri State 2018)
Brother McCoy graduated with a 3.94 grade point average and a Bachelor of Science in economics with minors in finance and general business. Within Theta Chi he was a three-time recipient of the Sherwood and Janet Roberts Blue Memorial Scholarship and served Iota Beta Chapter as Fundraising Chairman, Assistant Marshal, and Marshal. In 2017, he served on the planning committee for Bears at Bat: a Guinness world record baseball game which raised more than $20,000 for the USO. On campus Brandon was involved with the university’s Leadership Team, Homecoming Committee, CRU Campus Ministry, Men Addressing Social Construction, Commerce Bank Emerging Leaders Program, Phi Beta Lambda, and Student Government, where he started out as a Senator and was eventually elected President for the 2017/2018 academic year. Within the interfraternal community, Brother McCoy participated in the NIC’s Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute and spent time in Washington D.C. as a student lobbyist for the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition. Brandon was also the recipient of the 2018 Reginald E.F. Colley Award, the Fraternity’s highest collegiate honor.
