The Volunteer Spotlight for August highlights Brother Thomas (Tom) Van Cleave, Beta Rho/ Illinois Wesleyan College 1972.

Brother Van Cleave has a long record of service to Theta Chi Fraternity that continues today.

He was elected to the Grand Chapter for two terms (1978-82, 1982-86) and served both terms as the national counselor.  Tom also served on the Board of Directors of Theta Chi Funds for Leadership and Education from 1986-1990.  Following his time on those boards, he volunteered as a regional counselor for the fraternity supporting chapters in his home state of Illinois.

Over the years, Brother Van Cleave has been honored with the Alumni Award, Grand Chapter Service Plaque and the highest honor in the fraternity, the Distinguished Service Award.

More recently, Tom served twice on the 2013 faculty for Theta Chi Fraternity’s premiere event for emerging leaders, The Initiative Academy.  He also attended a counselor workshop in Indianapolis this month and continues his work as a counselor with two chapters in northern Illinois.

We thank Brother Van Cleave for his dedication to Theta Chi Fraternity and his commitment to the principle of the Helping Hand.

Tom currently lives in Illinois with his wife and works as the Director of Marketing for a retirement community.  Tom has 3 children and is the proud grandfather of 2 grandchildren.
