On Nov. 19, 2012, Zeta Gamma participated in the Pi Beta Phi Speed Read Competition and won. The multi-event competition included: Speed Read, Storytelling, Spelling Bee and Reading Relay. Scott Riddle (2013) represented Zeta Gamma in the Speed Read competition reading nearly 600 words from a Dr. Seuss book. Sean Thiessen (2013) made it to the second to last round in the Spelling Bee, and in the Storytelling event, Matthew Petersen (2015) read aloud from a Dr. Seuss book while Elmir Mahammadov (2015), Maciej Zasepa (2016), Sean Thiessen (2013) and Scott Riddle (2013) acted out the story. In the Reading Relay, a team of readers took turns reading as much as they could from book until the whistle was blown. The winner of the Speed Read were determined by the team earning the most points throughout the competition and for donations made to the First Book Foundation. There was also a Spirit Award for the team with the most spirit which Zeta Gamma also won.
