Brother Evan Nickel, Zeta Phi/Cal Poly 2013, is one of six graduates of Cal Poly to be highlighted during commencement ceremonies to be held June 15 and 16. Cal Poly’s mission is to produce whole-system thinkers who will become tomorrow’s leaders. The College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly believes that Nickel embodies this mission.

Nickel, a Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies major, had been working in video production, editing, graphic design, photo manipulations, digital visual effects, and video game creation before entering Cal Poly. His double major has allowed him to pursue computer graphics in the College of Engineering, and interactive communications with a cinematic focus in the College of Liberal Arts.

Nickel and three other students won first place in the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture’s Event Space/Archive Video Competition two years ago. Nickel served as cinematographer, director and editor of the short film that the group created, “Inspirations.”

According to Nickel, Cal Poly’s project-based learning gave him the skills he will use every day on the job.  After graduation, Nickel will be working in video game production at Warner Bros. Entertainment in Burbank, Calif.
